LEICESTER’S new signing Justin Sedgmen described his weekend victory as “awesome” as he took gold in the annual Rob Woffinden Classic event.
Sedgmen won the six-man Final at Pinjar Park, Western Australia in a meeting which featured several riders who will be returning to race in the UK this year.
The Watling JCB Lions man produced a superb move to sweep around the field on the first two turns, and then held off a strong challenge from former World Under-21 Champion Jaimon Lidsey, who will be back in the Premiership in 2023 with Belle Vue.
Tai Woffinden was third with former Lions heat-leader Ryan Douglas in fourth place.
Sedgmen is one of a host of new faces in the Leicester team for the new season which gets underway next month.
The Lions will be in action for the first time at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena on Thursday March 30 when they face Ipswich in the KO Cup, with a date for press and practice to be confirmed.
